Yvonne Drebert Receives 2026 Wayfinder Award presented by Kia

We’re thrilled to share that Yvonne has been named one of just 15 recipients worldwide of the 2026 Wayfinder Award presented by Kia from the National Geographic Society.
The award recognizes emerging leaders whose work in science, conservation, education, technology, and storytelling is helping to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world. For Yvonne, the recognition comes at an especially exciting time.
Just days before the announcement, our team completed an expedition to Superior Maximus, the deepest point in the Great Lakes. The timing feels fitting. For years, we’ve been using underwater robots to explore and document the hidden freshwater world beneath the surface, from never-before-filmed wildlife behaviours to historic shipwreck discoveries.
The award also arrives as we continue production on Hidden Below: The Great Lakes, our most ambitious project yet. The feature-length wildlife documentary will take audiences beneath the surface of the Great Lakes and their tributaries to reveal a freshwater world every bit as dramatic and awe-inspiring as any ocean.
We’re deeply grateful to the scientists, Indigenous communities, conservation organizations, broadcasters, funders, crew members, and supporters who have made this journey possible. Exploration is always a team effort, and we’re excited for what comes next.
